Released in the spring of and initially marketed toward CCM audiences -- an association the band disavowed rather rapidly -- Fallen quickly proved to be a success thanks to the platinum hit single "Bring Me to Life," which was soon followed by "My Immortal," both reaching the Billboard Top Ten in the U.
The album eventually went times platinum across the globe. All this success led to two Grammys, one for Best New Artist and one for Best Hard Rock Performance, but a split within the ranks soon emerged, with Ben Moody leaving the group during their European tour. Terry Balsamo , late of Cold , replaced Moody on guitar and became Amy Lee's main songwriting partner. The fruits of their collaboration would take a while to surface as Evanescence continued to ride the success of Fallen , buying time with Anywhere But Home -- a live album timed for the holiday season of -- and then suffering a few setbacks in , with Boyd leaving the band and Balsamo suffering a stroke.
The group's sophomore set, The Open Door , finally arrived in October of , with Tim McCord -- formerly Revolution Smile 's guitarist -- joining on bass after its release. Spearheaded by the single "Call Me When You're Sober," The Open Door didn't quite match the success of Fallen but it performed handsomely, debuting at number one on Billboard the week of its release.
It was another long wait for the group's third album, with the band scrapping sessions helmed by famed producer Steve Lillywhite before hiring Nick Raskulinecz , who wound up producing the eponymous album that appeared in October , a full five years after The Open Door. Like its predecessor, Evanescence debuted at number one on the Billboard charts. A massive tour took up much of including stops in North America, Europe, Asia, and South America , after which Lee announced that the band would take an extended break.
Evanescence wouldn't return to the stage until , when they played the Japanese offshoot of Ozzfest and a handful of American dates. A brief U. A newly recorded version of one Origin track, "Even in Death," was featured on the compilation album Lost Whispers , which was issued in early Later that year, the band released a new studio album entitled Synthesis.
When the band finally did make an appearance, they became one of the most popular acts in the area. In October , Moody left the band abruptly in the middle of a European tour. The reasons for his departure are currently unknown. In an interview several months later, Lee said "we'd gotten to a point that if something didn't change, we wouldn't have been able to make a second record. Terry Balsamo, from Cold joined the band, replacing Moody.
Evanescence is currently working on their second album, rumored to be ready for release in late Amy Lee, in an interview, has stated that the first single from this album will be called 'Prisoner for a Long Day'. Evanescence fits roughly into the generic genre of rock, but in fact sounds quite different among its arsenal of songs. Many say that the band is goth rock, which is true in certain respects.
Certainly, many of its songs focus on life's negative moments and darker themes such as lost love, loneliness and death. The piano plays a significant role in the majority of the band's music. Critics have accused Evanescence of not being "wannabe" goth rockers, but really just pop.
Lee, however, dismisses these labels and refuses to categorize and to paraphrase put in a box the band's music since she believes Evanescence has a unique sound. Often, the band is often compared to nu-metal band Linkin Park, but many fans find this comparison innaccurate because it is based solely on their single "Bring Me to Life", which features the lead singer of Twelve Stones rapping over a short section of the music.
This is not reflective of most of the other music, both on Fallen and in their earlier work. This may say something about their influences. Evanescence, a popular alternative rock band from Little Rock Pulaski County established in , is known for its dark, lyrical melodies. Amy Lee and Ben Moody former lead guitarist had met as teenagers at a summer camp in Arkansas in Eventually, the band grew into a world-renowned phenomenon.
Before deciding on Evanescence, however, the group went through several names, including Childish Intentions and Stricken. Ben Moody left the band in October Amy Lee, who was trained in classical piano for nine years, is the face behind the romantic sounds of the piano, the choir, and the string instruments. These songs are found on Fallen , released in , and the Daredevil movie soundtrack.
Fallen was ranked third on the Billboard in June and was in the top ten for almost a year. In , bassist Will Boyd left the band. Later that same year, Evanescence released its second album, The Open Door.
On October 11, , the band released its third studio album, the eponymous Evanescence. In , Lee released the album Aftermath , which contains music she recorded for the soundtrack for the movie War Story with cellist Dave Eggar and other musicians.
Lee and her husband, Josh Hartzler, had a son in July However, the band reunited in late for its first live performance in three years and, the following year, toured the United States. In , Evanescence released a vinyl box set of its albums to date.
