The Boat Torch requires 2 Twigs and 1 Torch to prototype and is necessary for players to have light when riding a Boat. Boat Torches can be applied onto almost all boats except for Log Rafts and Rafts, having 1 minute and 45 seconds of burn time. The Boat Lantern acts similar to a Boat Torch, being able to be attached to any Boats other than the Log Raft or Raft, though it provides light for a longer amount of time, being 7 minutes and 48 seconds.
The Cork Candle Hat requires 4 Cork and 2 Iron Ore to prototype and will serve as a light source, providing a light radius that is a bit smaller than a Torch.
The Ball Pein Hammer requires 2 Iron Ores and 1 Twig to prototype and provides players with the ability to get Lost Relics or Gold Nuggets from statues found in the ruins or on the surface. The Row Boat requires 4 Vines and 3 Boards to craft and provides players with the ability to sail. The Row Boat has durability and can be fitted with boat attachments and when it moves it will lose 5. The Row Boat is considered the best option for players to sail around in, especially because it provides players with 6 sailing speed.
Not only does the Thatch Sail have the lowest speed boost, but it also has the lowest durability, only lasting 2 days. A Boat Cannon is an extremely useful item for players to have as players will be able to them to deal damage, consuming 6.
The Trawl Net requires 3 Rope and 2 Bamboo to prototype and are used for catching marine life and items that are found on the water bed. Players can acquire items such as Mussels, consuming the spawn point, Jellyfish, Rainbow Jellyfish, Wobsters, Seaweed, Bioluminescence and have the chance to spawn a Quaken. Additionally, players have the chance to receive items that are sunken in the Deep Ocean, which are indicated by bubbles, only having 2 days at a time to get them.
Trawl Nets must be detached manually before they reach full capacity, the capacity being 9 and upon detaching the Trawl Net will be destroyed, sinking to the bottom of the ocean. If players fail to collect items before the Trawl Net sinks, which happens 90 seconds after detaching, all living creatures collected will die and float to the surface, allowing players to collect their dead variants.
When equipped, players will be able to reveal a cone-shaped portion of the map in the direction where players click their Right Mouse button. While the Spyglass has 5 uses, players will receive a different amount of range of sight based on the time of day, whether they are on boats or if they are currently in Hurricane Season.
Players will be able to see the double the map reveal they would normally get from a Spyglass though players run the risk of the Super Spyglass being blown away during Strong Winds.
The Captain Hat requires 1 Seaweed , 1 Bone Shard and 1 Straw Hat to prototype and will cause all boats to lose their durability at half the speed, though being hit with a wave will still deal full damage. The Buoy requires 4 Bamboo , 2 Bioluminescence and 1 Empty Bottle to craft and can be placed in the Ocean as a waypoint or to provide as much light as a Torch without the need to be refueled.
Cork Bowl Canoes have seconds of use, having a durability of 80 and have a sailing speed of 4. Players will not need a Bug Net until they are planning on crafting a Bee Box, realistically, though Shipwrecked players may need to rely on one in order to get quality resources.
Realistically players will not need a Fishing Rod as it primarily provides players with an extra food source, though players should note that Ponds freeze over in Winter, making this food source unreliable.
Players can avoid using a Fishing rod on Ponds as Frogs will also spawn from the Ponds, essentially providing players with food, other than at Night. That being said, players should fish at Night simply because Frogs will not spawn, Frogs being fairly dangerous to players since they attack players frequently and will cause them to drop items. It should be noted that players will only be able to fish in the Oasis during Summer.
Bird Traps require 4 Silk and 3 Twigs and can be used to catch Birds that land on them. Each Bird Trap has 8 uses and are not absolutely required, as players can use a Boomerang to kill birds, though if players are hoping to craft a Birdcage they will absolutely need a Bird Trap. Newer players who do not have constant food sources can rely on Bird Traps as Birds have the chance of dropping a small Morsel, which can be used to cook Meatballs and other Crock Pot items.
It should be noted that there is a chance a trap will break when a Bird is caught by it, essentially releasing the Bird and wasting a single use of the Bird Trap.
Players will have to murder caught Birds if they wish to receive the resources Birds drop, though players should note that this will raise their Naughtiness Meter which has the ability to spawn a Krampus. Straw Rolls are used for sleeping purposes and can only be used at Dusk and Night in order to skip these phases and gain 33 Sanity for the cost of 75 Hunger.
It might be a good idea to prototype a Straw Roll for emergencies, though again this is not a requirement. The Backpack requires 4 Cut Straw and 4 Twigs to prototype and provide players with a total of 8 extra inventory slots. As a player will have to use a Chest Slot, players will have to rely on Head Armour in order to protect themselves, or they can be a sneaky-sneaky, like me and install a mod that lets them wear both. Players will not be able to store Backpacks in Chests, though players may want to have multiple Backpacks with different skins if they wish to have one for each type of exploration they proceed in ie.
The Compass is a bit useless for players as all it does is tell a player which direction they are facing, though a player could just look at the mini-map. The Umbrella requires 6 Sticks , 2 Silk and 1 Pig Skin to prototype and is one of the best items players can use when it is raining. The Umbrella has 6 days of durability and will provide players with an insulation factor of during Summer. The Healing Salve requires 2 Ashes , 1 Rocks and 1 Spider Gland to prototype and is the first real healing item that players will have access to.
Healing Salves provide players with 20 Health upon consumption, though they are outclassed by Honey Poultice a bit later on in the game. I would recommend crafting yourself a bunch of these early on if you are finding it difficult to survive.
Water Balloons requires 2 Mosquito Sacks and 1 Ice to prototype and are used for putting out small fires in the area or for protecting nearby objects from catching on fire for 30 seconds. Players can use Water Balloons to wet Mobs in order to deal extra electric damage to them, which comes in extra handy for fighting the Dragonfly. The Silly Monkey Ball requires 2 Snake Skin , 2 Ropes and 1 Banana to prototype and can be used to lure Prime Apes so that they are no longer aggressive towards players.
Anti Venom requires 3 Seaweed , 2 Coral and 1 Venom to prototype and will remove the poison effect on any player who uses it. Players will not be able to preemptively use Anti Venom in order to protect themselves from poison.
It should be noted that players will not be able to kill Gnats with a regular weapon unless they are frozen. Basic Farms require 20 daylight mines for a plant to grow to full size, though players can rely on them for sources of Filler and for Fruits and Veggies that can be used for more complicated recipes.
Basic Farms are fairly useless in the long-run as they are severely outclassed by Improved Farms which produce crops at a faster. To find ways of keeping their food fresh, they should check out this article on freshness and spoilage. A Bee Box requires 4 Bees , 2 Boards and 1 Honeycomb to prototype and will help provide players with a fairly safe way of collecting Honey.
Honey is one of the best ways to heal yourself, especially if you are playing Wigfrid who can only eat meat. The Drying Rack requires 3 Twigs , 3 Ropes and 2 Charcoal to prototype and is a necessary food station for any base.
Players will need to hang the dried variants of each type of Meat and will need between 0. Unlike a Crock Pot, any Foods that are dried will come out with full freshness, allowing players to hold off until a food is about to expire before hanging them. Players will need to fuel Mushroom Planters with Living Logs every so often, similar to fertilizing a Farm every so often. Players should note that they will not be able to grow Mushrooms on a Mushroom Planter during Winter similar to Farms, though players can head down to the Caves if they want to farm Mushrooms all year around.
Players do not need Cookbooks realistically, but for those of you who are a bit forgetful, the Cookbook will be able to let you look back on recipes and what stats they provide players. The Mussel Stick requires 2 Bamboo , 1 Vine and 1 Seaweed to prototype and can be planted on a Mussel Bed in order to provide a player with 1, 3 or 6 Mussels, depending on how long the player has waited. The number of Mussels players will receive is indicated by how many Mussels are currently on the Mussel Stick.
Players are recommended to wait until 6 Fish are shown in the Fish Farm in order to acquire 4 Fish. Farming a Fish Farm before then will consume the Roe for less of a gain. Mussel Beds may be naturally spawning, but players can also artificially create them by using 1 Mussel and 1 Coral , only being able to plant them in the Shallow Ocean.
Electrical Doodads are used to craft a number of other items including the Alchemy Engine, Ice Flingomatics, Endothermic Firepits and many others. Unlike many of the other Refine items, players will not have to prototype the Electrical Doodad early as they are only really needed for mid-tier items. The Thermal Measurer requires 2 Boards and 2 Gold Nuggets to prototype and is often useless for players who use the Combined Status mod. All the Thermal Measurer does is let players know what the ambient temperature is, letting players know when the seasons are changing.
Players may notice the Thermal Measurer changing temperature throughout the day, this is normal as it will depend on how much sun is around. The Rainometer requires 2 Boards , 2 Gold Nuggets and 2 Ropes to prototype and is another semi-useless item. As the name suggests, the Rainometer will tell players when Rain is coming, having three stages: Sunny, Cloudy and Raining.

It's very popular with a large, dedicated community that receives frequent updates and tweaks, making it into a dynamic, expansive game.
Unfortunately, that means that getting into it can be kind of overwhelming. It's notoriously difficult without much of a learning curve at all and there aren't very many starter guides available that don't require further research to understand. Luckily, this list is here to help out any new players who are trying to find their footing.
Updated July 17, by Gabrielle Huston: Don't Starve Together receives regular updates, encouraging more and more players to try out this infamous title. It might be tough, but there's no reason that a capable player and their team can't work together to survive in this hostile land.
We can't save you from everything but this guide will tell you everything you need to know before jumping in so that you can avoid a few annoying surprises. Every character has a creative appearance which hints at their unique strengths, abilities, and weaknesses in the gameplay.
Wigfrid can only eat meat, but she's one of the strongest in battle, and she's able to craft special weapons and armor. Wendy is haunted by the ghost of her dead twin sister who jumps into battles for her and she isn't too bothered by the dark, but she doesn't hit very hard at all.
Warly has a portable crock-pot from the beginning and can use it to make special recipes, but his hunger drops significantly faster than anyone else's. If you don't want to spoil anything by venturing onto fan wikis and the like, just be sure to carefully consider the bullet points on the character selection screen. They provide decent clues about what a particular character will excel at and what they might be weak to. Pro Tip: It's especially important for groups to coordinate the characters they pick - even if the only information they have to go on is from the character screen - so they can all work together towards their shared goal survive!
When you enter the open world of Don't Starve Together, you'll be introduced to the resources and crafting system in-game. You'll be able to get things like Flints and Twigs pretty quickly after you spawn. As a result, it can be tempting to immediately craft an Axe which only requires one Twig and one Flint.
In this case, fight your natural instinct to craft! It'll be much more useful for you to save those resources and craft a Pickaxe instead. With your new tool, you can mine rocks, which will give you even more flint that can be used to create an Axe!
Depending on where you spawned in, it might be hard to find three pieces of flint otherwise. This will make achieving your goals in subsequent days a much smoother process.
You'll very quickly be introduced to the various mobs of the Don't Starve Together open-world. Some are around all day, while others only come out at night. Pigs and Guardian Pigs are some of the easiest to encounter - and they have a chance of becoming a "Werepig" during a full moon or after being fed 4 pieces of Monster Meat-related foods. Just like normal Pigs, Werepigs will stop to eat anything that's on the ground near them as well as raw Mandrakes.
However, like other Monsters, they'll attack anything that comes near them with the sole exception of Were-Woodie, a character that gamers can choose to play. The reason that they're useful for you and your objective is that they have a guaranteed drop of two pieces of Meat and one Pig Skin. You and your team can farm them by feeding nearby Pigs or Guardian Pigs your excess Monster Meat - which you're bound to come into after a while of taking out your assailants.
Once you kill the Werepig you've created, you can reap the rewards - kind of like trading in Monster Meat for regular Meat. Starting a fire in Don't Starve Together is frighteningly easy: just use the "Light" option on a flammable object when you're holding a Torch or play as Willow, who comes equipped with a Lighter.
