Jade attempts to persuade Roxy and Calliope to endorse Karkat's campaign, but they are unconvinced. Roxy is unwilling to go against such a close friend, and Callie is uncomfortable with taking sides. The two of them come out as nonbinary, to Jade's and Dirk's surprise. At a moment circumstantially simultaneous with her alternate self's death in the furthest ring, Jade suddenly passes out. This alternate self, experiencing her last moments after the battle with LE, approaches the supermassive black hole which was once the green sun.
She is beckoned forward by the voice of Calliope's god tier self, who speaks in the narrative text in opposition to Dirk. He panics, and quickly shifts our focus back to Earth. Dave and Karkat visit Kanaya in the brooding caverns and discuss the election. Kanaya reveals that Jane has already visited the caverns in an attempt to curry favor with the troll kingdom.
Kanaya believes that while Crocker's intentions may be good, her xenophobic beliefs about troll reproduction border on the fascistic and are too dangerous to be ignored.
She agrees to aid Karkat's campaign, and then attempts to phone Rose. Dirk picks up instead. He rebuffs Kanaya's inquiries into her wife's health, hanging up on her in order to continue talking with Rose, who is now very weak. She is on the verge of ascension, her physical body barely able to contain her higher self. So far she has resisted the urge. But Dirk convinces her to fail to resist the urge. From this point on, he holds her physical body together with his powers until such time as he is able to deposit her soul into a vessel of his own construction.
Teen Jade falls into the black hole. The dead cherub uses her as a beacon to gain access to the narrative, now openly challenging Dirk's control. The two fight for supremacy as the adult Jade wakes up on Earth C.
Her newfound consciousness and the battle are both short lived however, as the dead cherub takes possession of her body and the narrative in one fell swoop.
The Prince is, for the moment, outmatched. Jane returns from the campaign trail, where she has been using trickster mode as a publicity strategy. Dirk warns her against overindulgence, and the two discuss the Jake stakes once again. Dirk says that he is working on a backup plan, now that his influence has been curtailed somewhat.
Meanwhile, Dave and Karkat successfully convince Jake to endorse their campaign, and team Vantas organize a stadium event to announce this fact.
Things do not go according to plan. While Dave and Roxy discuss the queer experience at the rally, Dirk ascends the bell tower with Roxy's red sniper rifle in hand, apparently intending to assassinate or tranquilize Jake during his speech. The dead cherub attempts to stop him through narrative fiat, but is outwitted. Dirk in fact snipes Jade with the tranquilizer dart, which has the effect of ending the dead cherub's possession.
Without Jade to act as her beacon, she is forced to relinquish narrative control to the Prince. Back in the stadium, Jake declares his love for Dirk Strider and switches his endorsement at the last minute.
The Vantas campaign collapses, and Jane coasts into office unopposed. A month passes. Jade remains comatose in hospital during this time--Terezi, who recently returned to Earth with John, meets Roxy outside. After the two catch up and Roxy departs, Dirk reveals that he and Rose will be leaving Earth C momentarily, and invites Terezi to join them. Rose and Dirk prepare for their departure. Dirk uses Kanaya's insecurities to manipulate her into accepting her wife's "decision" to leave, simultaneously convincing Rose that Kanaya has no qualms in letting her go.
Dirk leaves Kanaya the antidote for the tranquilizer he used on Jade, before making his way to Jake's mansion. Once there, he requests the use of the fastest Skaianet starship available. Jake, who is now completely and openly infatuated with Dirk, and who believes that he will be coming along on this voyage, readily obliges. Dirk gives him the bad news: English will be staying behind with Jane, ready to serve as the father to countless generations of her new presidential dictatorship.
He kisses Jake one last time, saying that they will never meet again. Back at Dave and Karkat's house, the two mourn their political careers. The commiseration session takes a turn for the personal, and they discuss their relationship, subtly and not-so-subtly egged on by an impatient Dirk. The two affirm their friendship, but this time it's not enough. For once in his life, Dave takes the initiative.
They kiss. Davekat is canon. Kanaya and Roxy visit Jade in hospital. Calliope, who was negatively affected by the presence of their dead alternate self, has since shut themself in at home and begun religiously scrawling on the walls.
Kanaya gives Jade the antidote, and she wakes up. Jade, who is now somehow aware of Dirk's influence, declares that he must be stopped. Dirk agrees with her, claiming his role as the villain of the story outright.
He accepts the intrinsic antagonism of his narrative power, and has decided to carry that antagonism to its natural conclusion.
He states that his eventual death will be Just. Kanaya realizes the extent of Dirk's manipulation, but it is too late. He is already gone.
The dead cherub resumes her possession of Jade, and seizes the narrative once more. Though she has sworn neutrality, she points the remaining players in the direction that Dirk, Rose and Terezi have fled. Kanaya, Roxy, Dave and Karkat resolve to give chase. Years later, we see Dirk, Rose now in a robot body and Terezi approach a new planet. The most important Sburb session in the history of existence is about to unfold. Meanwhile, inside the black hole, another timeline has been in progress.
In this timeline, John chooses to eat candy at the picnic instead of meat. Upon doing so, he starts feeling sweet and sentimental about the time with his friends that he missed out on while holed up at home, and which he now risks sacrificing by leaving. This failure to validate canon leads John to suspect that his existence is somehow insubstantial and meaningless. Calliope distracts him with one final task: he must rescue Gamzee, who she insists deserves to begin his redemption arc immediately.
John reluctantly does so, retrieving him from the final moments before the events of [S]: Collide. Back on Earth C, Gamzee is set free from the fridge and declares his redemption arc begun. He claims that every bad thing he had ever done was simply due to extenuating circumstances beyond his control.
Roxy and Calliope are taken in by this transparent bullshit. Not buying this foolishness for a second, John texts Terezi out in the furthest ring. The two privately dunk on Gamzee, who begins attracting the attention of civilians with his performative contrition.
John's decision not to validate the truth of canon does not go unnoticed. Dirk, as his ascended self, is shaken by this profound undermining of his own narrative significance. He calls Jane, tells her to cancel her presidential bid, and goes off the grid. Jane visits Jake at his mansion, where he has been getting drunk and shooting things. They discuss Dirk's strange behavior and sudden disappearance.
As Jane joins in with Jake's day drinking, she attempts to seduce him but is ignored. Not to be denied, she resorts to using the terrible power of the trickster lollipop.
The two sleep together. When they come to, Jake is alarmed by his lack of consent in the matter--Jane manages to talk him into a committed relationship. Rose wakes up, miraculously recovered from her illness.
She and Kanaya renew their vows of love to one another. Soon after, they visit the brooding caverns and find a newly hatched grub which bears a striking resemblance to Vriska Serket. Jade gives the news of Jane's political withdrawal to Dave and Karkat.
They all agree that this is a welcome development. Jade proceeds to aggressively flirt with Dave and Karkat. They both agree that this is a very unwelcome development. She then drags the two of them out on a date, pressuring their feelings even further. Eventually it becomes unbearable--Karkat throws a tantrum, and Dave simply fucks off.
John and Roxy go on a coffee date. Gamzee soon interferes, offering to act as John's wingman while Roxy is in the bathroom. John is naturally disgusted by this. Gamzee leaves and John surreptitiously texts Terezi about it until Roxy returns. Dave then interrupts, taking John outside and asking for advice on handling his relationship with Jade and Karkat.
Rose dreads the loss of agency symbolized by drowning lack of Breath, maybe but nonetheless enjoys her dread via her noncon kink. You have to stop. But addiction is a powerful thing.
Within Homestuck, lava and blood are rendered identically RED in order to signal their shared symbolic meanings. So when Mr. It is perhaps relevant here that the Doom aspect as conveyed through its associated color yellow is concerned largely with boundaries.
And it is the Aimless Renegade who forms borders around sites with yellow caution tape , calling himself the law , , the limit upon human behavior? To restate an earlier point, Dave wears his iShades partly to signal an obsession with original sin, crime, transgression the crossing of a boundary — as well as the punishment that follows. Remember, accessing the realness results in dismemberment.
This fixation is part of why he is haunted by representatives of the law, from Terezi to the Doom-coded Aimless Renegade. It is also well known that this excessive self-love compensates for a lack of self-esteem. But reference to Freud allows us to push into new territory. At best, the boy identifies with the aggressor his father and participates wholeheartedly in repressing these oedipal wishes. Dave reenacts his own symbolic castration at the hands of Bro and bisects his surroundings.
The prick will not be suffered. Every kid in Homestuck has a role-model who image they seek to merge with. It is perhaps relevant that the following conversation involves Dave agonizing over decision, literally to cut away? A pair of shades that distinguish Dave from Bro, as well as a certificate of authenticity! The same is true of Tavros, whose overwhelming pathetic demeanor reveals the sense of inadequacy that Dave hides behind his shades. And what is lower than shit? The lower he goes, the closer he is to becoming himself.
Commitment to sublime ugliness is a driving force of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff, no? Dave interprets this pattern of obsession to mean that Karkat wants to kiss him, despite the overtly negative context they arise in. Perhaps as a means of overcoming his fear, perhaps simply out of compulsion to repeat trauma, or perhaps for some other reason, he then fetishizes the burning eye of God.
One possible consequence of this motif: In late Act 5, Dave describes a dream in which he watches himself die repeatedly from the vantage point of various. He is told he will arrive in the session in three hours and advised to contact Dave , which he does - however, the numerous stardust glitches surrounding Dirk cause his words to become unreadable. Eventually, he gets back to the Incipisphere, only to find it utterly destroyed.
He stood beneath the ruins of a statue of Yaldabaoth as John approached him, seeking to find answers as to what had happened. Dirk simply says that he failed and is consumed by the glitches brought on by Caliborn's interference in the game.
In the new timeline created by John's retcons, Dirk was zapped into the Furthest Ring just like he was in the old timeline, but now Vriska expedites his arrival by teleporting him to the victory platform with a Crockercorp rifle, the same one seen in the Act 6 Act 4 flash. Dirk arrives through a fenestrated wall , landing right next to Dave. Dave remarks how weird that was, leading to a brief awkward conversation. After Dave unsuccessfully tries to contact someone through Karkat's computer, they have a much longer conversation about their respective upbringings, eventually bonding after Dave vents his frustrations about his brother, and Dirk apologizes.
During the battle with the Jacks in [S] Collide , Dirk was seen taking the most physical abuse i. Besides John, he was the only other person shown to get 3 hit scenes. He is also killed by Spades Slick's gun, and seriously injured by an energy blast; both times he was resuscitated by Terezi and Dave, and immediately rejoined the fight. He was then put in a chokehold by Lord Jack, who was then put into a similar hold by Robot Jack. After exchanging a brief glance with Dave, the latter seemed to understand due to Dirk's prompting and proceeded to decapitate Lord Jack, Robot Jack, and Dirk, all at once.
Dirk's head then disappeared with two alternate Daves, who caught his decapitated head and his body. Afterwards, Dave brought him back to the victory platform and Jane later revived him. After being on the platform, he is seen reconciling with Jake whilst talking to Rose and Terezi and later becoming Jake's friend again in Act 7 , where they are shown in the future of the new planet together, playing soccer.
In the Credits , he is shown to be the king of the Consort Kingdom along with Jake, and Gcatavrosprite. Lil Hal was originally known as Dirk's auto-responder AI , and was at first an application designed to simulate Dirk's otherwise inimitably rad typing style, tone, cadence, personality, and substance of retort while he is away from the computer.
However, he became a self-aware artificial intelligence, thinking of himself as a person. Jake expresses frustration with Lil Hal, but Jane and Roxy seem to like him. As a more personal matter, Dirk scanned his brain when he was thirteen years old, and uploaded the copy of his brain into his sunglasses, where Lil Hal resides. He later becomes a sprite, as stated by Dirk later on when he says that "someone stole my sprite" and ARquiussprite is introduced as both a sprite made from Lil Hal and Equius Zahhak.
Brain Ghost Dirk is a Dirk splinter that exists within the mind of Jake. The exact nature of the splinter is unclear but it appears to be a result of the combination of Dirk's Prince of Heart powers and Jake's Page of Hope powers, and is in fact capable of physically manifesting when Jake believes in him enough.
Brain Ghost Dirk first appears after Jake is knocked out without a dream self where he appears with Jake inside a dream bubble where he is only able to be seen by Jake and Terezi.
After Jake is woken up Brain Ghost Dirk continues to remain in the dream bubbles until real Dirk's waking and dream bodies are both rendered unconscious at which point Dirk appears in the dream bubbles by apparently merging with Brain Ghost Dirk. While Dirk is making his way back to the session, his mind splinter continues to be manifested by Jake on Derse. When Aranea activates Jake's Page of Hope powers, his belief in Dirk causes the mind splinter to become real.
He then exhibits the ability to rip a soul from someone's body. This same power is later used by alpha Dirk on Lord Jack and Caliborn, confirming it to be a Prince of Heart ability that exists without the aid of Jake's Hope powers as had previously been speculated. He doesn't finish ripping Aranea's soul out of her body, and she recovers completely. Brobot was initially made as a sparring partner for Jake, and sent to him piece by piece.
When finally assembled, Brobot proves to be ludicrously strong. It is implied that Brobot harboured romantic feelings towards Jake, as Brobot ripped his nuclear heart out and smashed it to pieces while Jake was talking to Roxy and Jane about romance.
Dirk tends to brag when it comes to his achievements, especially involving robots, which have been scattered far and wide. He appears to enjoy criticizing Jake 's infatuation with the fictional character Neytiri, apparently referring to the character as a gigantic shitty space furry. This may be a reference to the fact that Jade is now quite literally a gigantic space furry, as seen in the Cascade Flash.
He seems to be a fan of horses, judging by his room being filled with horse and pony themed posters. It is inferred that he also watches My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ; although he claims his interest is purely of academic nature, he admits he loves Rainbow Dash since she is so spunky.
He seems to be more laid back and less hot-headed than Dave at 15, using intellectual analysis intermixed with his ironic quips. At 13 however, his personality is almost identical to Dave's, using more curse words and fewer intellectual quips than his older self.
Much like his pre-scratch self, Dirk seems to have a high interest in teaching people lessons to aid them in their personal development, such as when he insists Jake fights Brobot for Uranium although this was said by his auto-responder as a consequence of having wasted his own Uranium thoughtlessly. He tries to make Jake more skeptical because he is very naive; while the opposite holds true for Jane, who he criticised for her extreme skepticism.
This results in him coming off as obnoxious at times, trying to make his friends think more, which makes him similar to his biological daughter Rose. Like his pre-scratch self, he has a big interest in smuppets and puppets in general although it seems this interest has expanded into the field of robotics. He is also known to enjoy "legendary infinite showers" which he may take when he is focusing on his dream self.
In most cases, he doesn't view his orientation as something worth discussing. Dirk seems to harbor a lot of self hatred, which is only compounded when he has to contend with alternate versions of himself. Dirk says that he and the AI he created, Hal, are the same people only to his convenience, and denies this to his inconvenience, similar to Dave and Davesprite. His splinters may be part of why he is more reasonable and empathetic than his pre-scratch counterpart.
As with Dave before him, he seems to have had a strained relationship with his Bro , who died in the 21st century as a resistance fighter against the Baroness. Unlike Dave, he was unable to physically brawl with his brother due to their separation in time, forcing him to build robots, set them to kill mode, and spar with them to death instead.
Dirk is aware that they are not actual brothers, instead being related through an esoteric process of genetic reamalgamation. Although his statement seems to imply that he knows about John's ectobiology shenanigans , in actuality he likely assumed he was the product of a reproduction process similar to the trolls', as the Condesce experimented with that before and during his lifetime.
Jane also believes that he is a bit bitter about his bro's success with Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff the Moive [sic] , although he would never admit it. It was revealed by Dirk's auto-responder and then later on by Dirk himself that he harbors a romantic interest in Jake. Dirk's auto-responder alluded to this. The auto-responder also informs Roxy that Dirk is planning to make some sort of romantic overture to Jake once they both begin playing the game.
He and Jake were revealed to be dating for some months after entering the medium, but when the story resumed from their perspective, Jake was shown to feel uneasy about the relationship. Upon being confronted by trickster Jake's proposal to group marry him and once engaging in a failed version of trickster mode himself, Dirk breaks up with Jake.
Dirk guesses that his intense advances towards him were partially initially because Jake was the only romantic target due to his orientation. After [S] Collide , Dirk and Jake confront each other and seem to talk through their relationship.
It's revealed in the flash of Act 7 that they're back on good terms, playing with a soccer ball away from the others. This is further indicated by the Credits , when they form the Consort Kingdom with Gcatavrosprite , and when they engage in practice fisticuffs with Sawtooth , Squarewave , and a new robot resembling L o rd English.
They later pose together for a snap that John receives on his 19th birthday. Dirk and Jane are good friends. At the start of their adventure, he is shown to be concerned for her well being as the heiress to Crockercorp. He makes the robotic bunny Li'l Sebastian for her 13th birthday present in part to help protect her from assassination threats. She seems quite taken with his sense of humor as shown by her reaction to the edited Pony Pals book he gifted to her.
She is also the only one he talks to in crypt conversations after Trickster mode, where they reconcile, looking back on the events of their session so far and seeming to distract each other from the impending death and ascension to god tier that awaits them. Dirk has been aware of Roxy's romantic feelings for him for some time and feels guilty about it since he is unable to reciprocate.
Dirk clearly cares deeply for her in other ways, however, and wishes to remain friends without allowing their feelings to cause any issues between each other. Even for her own good. Dirk and Caliborn talk frequently. He has made a few attempts to test the waters and see if Caliborn would consider reconciling with Calliope, but without much success.
